Chico Football 2008

Well maybe it time to start a posting about this.
This is always a hot topic. We are just as passionate about our football as we are about politics and religion.
I have posted a comment under Streets and Yards about football after someone left a comment there about the team.
I know this is one place where people will probably have a opinion and I am eager to see what everyone will say.......

I thought that I would repost this in the proper place. Chatty Cathy, nice changes to your blog spot-looks great, real upscale!

I just read the last 2 postings. I have to say even though I do not live in Chico, I do have nephews that play football in a couple of small towns, Ferris & Teague. I think that anonymous is way off base and that Chatty Cathy is more on track.

I feel that it’s very important in sports to be supportive at every level of play, from pee wee to college sports. Kids need to know that they are supported win or lose and that they are not going to be verbally abused from fans. They get enough of that from coaches.

My friend whose sons are players at A&M, say that bashing the players and coaches affect them the most, because they hang with these people regardless if they win or lose.

I come from a family of Aggies and we have not always been on the winning side of the ball, but we always support the players and the team. Players seem to have a way of hearing all of the negative remarks made by foolish fans, but not enough of the positive statements made by the rest of the fans.

Same holds true for you Chico Dragons. Chico, get out there and support these young men and show them what being good spirited means. Give them a good example to live up to and try not to be the vast negativity that can be spewed so easily.

I hope that anonymous never has to hear her son repeat what a foolish parent says in the stands that is disparaging. Because it will break you heart as a parent and it does make a difference in a players’ attitude.

Go Dragons!

I hope we learn a lesson about how outsider see are bad mouthing about our team.

Thanks to Morgan for point out what so many of us know and what other need to learn.

Chico critics: shut up!

I have covered nearly 100 Wise County varsity football games. I’ve seen and heard it all along the way. It never fails that in the close games - win or lose - or the blowout losses that parents (Dads are the worst) know everything the coach did that cost them the game. Turnovers, injuries, penalties, lack of talent or simply playing a team that is flat out better are not excuses. Every team should win on every night, including the mighty Chico Dragons. Pete Hart and his 24-member varsity team lost to Perrin-Whitt Friday night. I didn’t care, I was just happy I got to watch some Dragon football for the first time in my life. The game did not end until almost 11 p.m., so I needed to rush back to the office and get the sports section cranked out. I walked onto the field hoping to get a quick quote when I walked past a group of men bad mouthing Chico.
No, they were not from Perrin-Whitt. I’m ashamed to say they were from Chico. I know that comes as no surprise to most in Chico - as it has been a common practice over the last five years - but it means something to people outside the loop. To those inside the loop … this is one reason the program is struggling to get back to where it was. As long as coaches are bad-mouthed by adults (both public figures and parents of the athletes), how are the kids ever going believe in what they are being taught? To those running outside the fences … I can only hope your boys grow up to be nothing like you; that they one day realize dad was not only living vicariously through his child, but Dad also had the need to belittle others in order to feel better about himself.

maybe if the boys on the football team would start putting the effort into getting all there friends in the school to play football and quit driving the middle school looking for girls then they might win a few more games.
